Generate PDFs with Claude and PDFBolt

Connect PDFBolt to Claude to generate PDFs from prompts, web page URLs, or reusable templates. Claude uses PDFBolt to generate the document, then provides an attachment or download link.

PDFBolt hosts the MCP server, so you do not need to run one locally or provide a PDFBolt API key. You authorize the connection by signing in to your PDFBolt account through OAuth.

This guide covers Claude on the web and in the desktop app. For the terminal client, see Claude Code.

Before You Start

You need a PDFBolt account and to be signed in to Claude.

1. Add the PDFBolt Connector

Open the PDFBolt connector in Claude and select Connect to Claude.

After authorization, Claude shows Connected on the PDFBolt connector page.

3. Check the Connection

Open a conversation. From the + menu, select Connectors and check that PDFBolt is enabled.

Ask Claude to check your account:

Use PDFBolt to check my current plan and remaining credits. Do not generate any PDFs.

If Claude asks for permission, approve the request. The response should show your plan and remaining credits. Checking usage does not consume PDF generation credits.

4. Generate a PDF from a Prompt

Tell Claude what to include and how the document should look. For example:

Use PDFBolt to create a one-page A4 quote for Acme Studio: website design for $600 and development for $900. Show the total of $1,500. Use a navy heading and a clear pricing table. Give me a PDF download link without saving a template.

If Claude asks for permission, approve the request. Claude uses PDFBolt to convert the HTML into a PDF. Open the download link in the response to view the document.

The layout may differ from this example. You can also ask Claude to give you the PDF as a file.

Troubleshooting

You cannot add the PDFBolt connector

If you use Claude in a Team or Enterprise workspace, an organization owner must enable the PDFBolt connector before members can connect. Once it is available, connect your own PDFBolt account. See Claude’s connector guide for current requirements.

PDFBolt is connected but Claude does not use it

Open + → Connectors in the conversation and check that PDFBolt is enabled. Mention PDFBolt in your prompt and approve the request if Claude asks for permission.

PDFBolt needs to be reconnected

Open PDFBolt under Customize → Connectors and follow the prompts to reconnect your account. Return to the conversation and check that PDFBolt is enabled.

The PDF is ready, but Claude cannot download it

Open the download link in your browser before it expires. Claude’s environment may block the download even when PDFBolt has generated the document successfully.

Use the existing link before requesting another conversion, which uses additional PDFBolt credits.

For other connection or conversion errors, see MCP troubleshooting.

PDFBolt Plugin

There is also a PDFBolt plugin that includes the MCP connection and skills to guide Claude through PDF generation and template management. The connector alone supports all the tasks in this guide.
